More Bailouts?

The Restoring American Financial Stability Act of 2010, Senate Bill 3217, scheduled to hit  the Senate floor this Friday, April 23. This bill is Senator Chris Dodd’s solution to the “too big to Fail problem.” It will create bailouts forever by creating a new $50 Billion fund that will be used for restructuring companies that would close due to bankruptcy. We do not need more bailouts. Contact Senators Byrd and Rockefeller today and ask them to oppose Senate Bill 3217.

Where do our rights come from?

True or false?
Your rights come directly from the Bill of Rights.

Obvious, isn't it?  Well, it isn't because the Bill of Rights doesn't create
any rights.  Read through the first 10 amendments and you'll see the phrase, "the right of the people," repeated over and over.

Remember, this was the very beginning.  Congress couldn't start making any laws until AFTER the Constitution had been approved by the states.  The rights of the people already existed.

The Bill of rights was designed to protect those rights already endowed upon the citizens of this nation.  "...they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights..." the Declaration of Independence stated.

Perhaps the 9th amendment says it best.  "The enumeration in the
Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage
others retained by the people."  Meaning, there are just too many rights to count.

Pray for the Miners and Families in Raleigh Co., WV

At least 25 miners are dead after a mine explosion in Raleigh County, WV. Four are still missing. Please, pray for the families of the miners and for the miners still missing. Coal miners risk their lives to provide electricity for us, which we so often take for granted. They are amazing people and their families are amazing, too.

Remember the Local Candidates

The primary election is coming up soon. We have focused on the 1st Congressional District race. How could we not? Despite protests in front of his office, letters, phone calls, and faxes, Congressman Mollohan has ignored the voice of the people. He must be replaced by someone who listens to the constituents of the 1st Congressional District.

 

However, this is not the only race. We will also be voting for state and local offices. As the federal government overreaches its authority, the states can assert their rights. We need to be sure to elect officials that will uphold the constitution on the state level by asserting the rights guaranteed by the 10th Amendment. Please, get involved in the campaigns, not just for federal offices, but also state and local offices.

 

Delegate District 41, which includes all of Harrison County and a small portion of Marion, has four delegates. There are five Republicans running and six Democrats. There is a primary fight on both sides. We are hosting a candidate forum on April 10 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Shinnston Youth Center. This is an opportunity to meet the candidates and decide who you will support in May and November. For more information on the candidate forum, see our events page.

If the Democratic primary for the First Congressional District of WV was today, who would you vote for?

This is an unscientific poll. We just wanted to get an idea of who you, the people are supporting. There were several votes from one IP address within a two minute time frame for Alan Mollohan on the democratic side and Mac Warner on the republican side. For those who do not know an IP address identifies a computer on the internet, so several votes from one IP address within a couple minutes means it was most likely the same person voting several times. These votes did not change who received the most votes, but it did affect the percentage by which they won. Below are the results only counting one vote per IP address.
