SURPRISE!

Another bill where you have to pass it to  see what is in it! Right here in West Virginia! Pelosi’s  famous comment on Obamacare has been copied by Charleston Democrats!Thank you Manchin.Thank you Tomblin. Thank you progressive  controlled legislature.Thank you  for The Alternative and Renewable Energy Act,  which is more commonly known as West Virginia Cap and Trade.

Supporters say that it is not cap and trade because it doesn't cap carbon emissions.  This is a deceptive Lie. It caps coal use instead! The point is that it is designed to destroy our coal industry and raise the electric prices of consumers by requiring West Virginia electric plants to use less coal.  Whether it reduces carbon in the atmosphere or not is irrelevant.  Stop lying and deceiving us.

No one seems to deny the “Trade” aspect, which is that it requires the purchase (trade) of  credits for any utility that does not meet the 75% Cap on Coal.  (These credits are expensive.  As Obama said “Sure they can build a coal fired plant, it will just cause them to go bankrupt”).

NOW we are finding out that the cap only applies to electricity sold to West
Virginians! So let me get this straight. The utilities can sell all the cheap coal fired electricity they want to other states, at high auction  rates, for big profits.  But
Charleston incumbents have forced them to sell the expensive alternate energy (wind) electricity to West Virginia residents to meet the Cap.No wonder  rate increases were approved by Charleston for West Virginia residents! I was wondering how that could be allowed. Now I know.

Manchin,  Tomblin, and the incumbents in  Charleston passed the Cap and Trade Bill to get special interest campaign money from the electric producers.  Why?  By allowing them to get high profits on cheap coal fired electricity sold at open market auction to other states.   Also, by allowing  them to increase rates to sell the high priced alternative
energy produced electricity to the residents of West Virginia.   Higher profits for electric companies.  Higher electricity rates for West Virginians. Here in Harrison County,
all four of our House of Delegate members voted for this:  Miley, Fragale, Iaquinta, and Cann.

Our own elected officials gave Obama a gift for political considerations.  Our own
elected officials gave the special interest electric corporations a gift for
campaign contributions.  (The Tuesday October 2nd edition of the Exponent revealed the $1,000 campaign donations from American Electric Power).  Our own elected officials forced every West Virginian that buys electricity to pay for the gifts, with the
higher electric rates granted last year (with more to come - Surprise!) for
expensive alternative energy instead of cheap gas or coal. (Gas electric generation is capped for sale to West Virginians too.  Even the more expensive clean coal methods of “supercritical” and “ultra supercritical”   - which at least uses coal - was capped by Charleston Democrats, to give Obama his gift of all the expensive  windmills that West Virginians are being forced to pay for).  The Charleston  incumbents are costing us money  for personal political considerations and special interest considerations.    They are not doing what is best for the people of West Virginia.

Cap and Trade in WV? Say it ain't so, Joe!

On the special election edition of Decision Makers, Joe Manchin said that he is against Cap and Trade. That’s interesting because he signed Cap and Trade into law here in WV. Not only did he sign this bill, he was the one who requested the state legislature take it up. Say it ain’t so, Joe! Unfortunately, it is so. It is House Bill 103 (2009).

What is in this bill? Basically, by January 1, 2025 electric utilities will have to replace 25% of the energy they produce with “renewable energy.” We don’t really know what can be used as “renewable energy,” other than no more than 10% of it can be replaced with natural gas.  This law actually goes into effect earlier than 2025. January 1, 2015, 10% of the coal has to be replaced by “renewable energy.” Then, on January 1, 2020, the reduction goes up to 15%.

Oh wait, it starts even earlier than 2015. This January 1, 2011, each electric utility in West Virginia will have to submit a report to a newly formed commission to explain how each one plans to meet the reduction in coal required under the law. The commission will decide whether to approve the report or not.  Each utility will also have to pay $200,000.00 in a special fee to fund the commission.  Each year after that for 2012, 2013, and 2014, the utilities will have to submit another report describing how they are coming on executing their plan and pay another $100,000.00 fee.  These $100,000.00 fees also continue in all future years beyond that.  Of course these fees will eventually be passed on to the customers in the form of higher electric prices.

The bottom line is everyone in West Virginia will have to pay more for electricity. This is not what we want for WV and not what we want for the United States.

Cap and Trade Bad for WV, Bad for America

Cap and trade is not only a tax. Yes, it is the tax. It will raise the cost of everything that has to be shipped. That means you and I will be paying more so the government can get this money. The idea of this bill is to control our energy habits.  In further investigation of the Cap and Trade bill, we can find this bill would send government inspectors into homes to make sure the home is equip for green teleology. Do our elected officials not trust us to make wise decisions? We are the American people. We live in a nation of freedom where we must make decisions for ourselves.

Furthermore, West Virginia coal country will suffer economically from this legislation with an estimated loss of GSP in 2012 of -$275.44 and Non-Farm Job

Loss in 2012 of -3,084 (http://www.wvared.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/West-Virginia-Cap-and-Trade.pdf).

This legislation is bad for personal freedom, bad for West Virginia and bad for America. The house has already passed this legislation. The senate will vote on it in the fall. Senator Byrd has already said he will oppose it. Let’s keep the pressure on Senator Rockefeller. We, the voters, are responsible for holding our elected officials accountable. If we lose our freedom it is because we did not take a stand. Anyone can go to the State Capitol on Saturday, July 18 should go and make their voice heard. Keep writing and calling Senator Rockefeller. Let’s stand up for ourselves, our state, and our nation.
