Defend the Republic-Dr. Richard Kerr at the 2010 Tax Day Tea Party

Dr. Richard Kerr is a retired physician and the former chair of the state Libertarian Party. At the 2010 Tax Day Tea Party, he inspired us all to defend our republic. He knows the value of the Constitution and knows value of freedom.

Progressives believe the principals of the Founding Fathers are irrelevant today. However, Dr. Kerr pointed out, “The same defects in human nature that inspired the Founding Fathers to protect us from government excesses. The lust for power still motivates some. Power still tends to corrupt and absolute power still tends to corrupt absolutely. Men still covet each other’s processions. Leisure is still more fun than work, and majority will still, when able, plunder the assets from minorities.” Dr. Kerr said that now, as our population grows, we need Local and State governments to deal with local and state issues.

He, also, pointed out that when you spend a dollar on one person you have to take that dollar from someone else. Where is the moral value in that and how do we expect our nation to survive when we take from the producers and give to the “loafers”? As Dr. Kerr said, “When you punish people through taxation for producing, and you pay people through entitlement programs for loafing, you will get more loafing and less production.”

Now is the time for us to save our republic. Dr. Kerr issued this challenge to us, “Speak boldly. Call thievery thievery. Call fascism fascism. Hound your congressman and senators until they are sick of hearing from you or until they do the right thing.” He said, “It is un-American for the government to exceed its Constitutional bounds.”He listed acts of our government that were un-American, including the bailouts. Most importantly he said, “It was despicable, it was unconscionable, and it’s absolutely un-American have accumulated such a mind boggling national debt and unfunded liabilities. This debt will doom our children and grandchildren to a crippling level of taxation and make them indenture servants to the government.” We need to vote out every “thieving incumbent” that got us into this mess!

For the next few days, I will be posting summaries of the speeches for our Tax Day Tea Party.

The first speech is by Heath Frazier. If you don’t who Heath is, that is because he is an ordinary American, trying to provide for his family. I met Heath as I was starting to plan our first Tea Party. He also wanted to plan a Tea Party in Clarksburg, WV, so we joined forces. He has spoken at each of Tea Parties and will be speaking at the Independence Day Tea Party on July 5, 2010.

Heath offers encouragement listing some of the Tea Party victories. He points out, “It has taken the progressives in this country to organize in local communities for decades. Its only taken the Tea Party patriots about 12 months.”

Heath goes on to say that despite these victories we to continue to fight against expansions of government and the reckless spending of tax payer money. How do we do this? By electing people who abide by the Constitution instead of people who make their decisions according to back room deals and buyout. Heath says, “We need heroes not cowards. We need patriots not socialists.” We need to find candidates who stand for what we believe is good for our nation. They should be people who will stand for things such as, state’s rights, small businesses, and decreased government involvement in our lives. When find these candidates we need to do everything we can to get them elected.

Why is Heath involved in the Tea Party? So he can tell his 2 year old son that he did something to protect his son’s liberty. Why are you involved in the Tea Party? What are you doing to secure liberty for future generations?

There is Always Something We Can Do

It is wonderful to be in the greatest nation in the world. I am thankful to have been born in the United States of America. However, with the government takeover of the banking and car industries, with czars that are accountable to no one except the president, with a tax system that stifles opportunity, and with a mountain of debt that we will be passing on to our children’s children, the future of the country looks bleak. In this situation, we could find ourselves asking, “Why me?” We could find ourselves saying, “All hope is lost.” We can choose to say, “There is something I can do!” We can choose to say, “I was born for such a time as this, so I will stand up and take my nation back!”

This is still the land of the free and the home of the brave.   We still have the freedom to speak out and let our beliefs be heard. We still have the freedom to choose our leaders. We still have the freedom to say, “We’ve had enough!”  The well being our children hangs in the balance. If we want our children to enjoy the freedom we have enjoyed, we must speak out. If we want our children to enjoy the freedom for which so many people have fought and died, we must speak out. Are we brave enough to take a stand for the future this nation? I think we are.

We Must Fight for Freedom

5/19/2009

“Live free or die” sounds like a great rallying cry.  We will fight to the death for freedom, but that is not what the statement is about. It is a warning. If we do not fight for freedom, our society will die. How are we fighting for freedom with the Tea Party movement? When the people in our society depend on the government for what should be personal responsibilities, we are allowing the government to control our lives. We must fight for freedom.

Look at the banks and the car companies. The government has taken control of the bonuses and has fired CEOs. Many people say we should have a say in how these companies spend our money, but really we should speak out on how the government spends our money. Even if our country did not further its debt to bailout these companies, we still should not spend our money this way. We should not invite the government to have that kind of control over businesses. We must fight for freedom.

The government is not just exerting control over our businesses, but also our personal lives. Why should someone have to pay extra taxes because they smoke? Many people are fighting for what they call lifestyle choices, but smokers are being punished for their lifestyle choice. I do not think smoking is wise, but it is a choice some people make. We must fight for freedom.

As we allow the government to spend more money to fund our responsibilities, we allow the government to take more control over our lives. As Americans talk about “free” health care, in Britain the government has nutritionist doing a health audit of people’s refrigerators. Britain’s National Health Service has denied smokers treatment for heart disease and obese people hip and knee replacements. Some may say, “Well, if you get something for free you should do what they tell you to do.” We should do what who tells us to do to do. Who will decide what the people have in their refrigerator? If tax dollars come from the people to pay for “free” health care, why should the politicians decided what the people should eat? The government works for us. Let’s keep it that way. We must fight for freedom.

When we look at the bailouts, stimulus package, d another excessive spending in our country, we must look not only at where the money will come from for these huge price tags, but also, how these programs will affect our freedom. As we look at our tax system we think about the money we work for and do not get to keep. We must also look at how we are being controlled by the tax system. As we look at spending programs for the future, we must look at how similar programs have affected freedom in other countries. Throughout generations, Americans have bleed and died for our freedom. Are we willing to give that up or will we stand up and tell our elected officials, “Enough with the spending!” Will we elect someone else if they do listen? This is not a bloody fight. This is a fight where we pick up our right to vote and our right to free speech to take our nation back. We must fight for freedom.

Remember the Children

Children will shape the future of our nation. The Tea Party movement is not about today; it is about tomorrow. It is about the future of our nation, the children. We are fighting against the trend of spending because if we do not pay off our debts and we continue to let our debts rise, our children will pay our debts or lose the freedom we enjoy as Americans. We cannot stop with fighting for our children; we must continue to the next step.  If we want are children and grandchildren to live the best lives they can, we must teach them for what we are fighting. The children must be instructed in our values of freedom and responsibility. We do not want this movement to die with us. We want it to continue for generations, because we want the freedom and prosperity of America to continue for generations. Teach your children about constitution. Teach your children about responsibility. Teach your children about America, the great nation we love.

Extremist?

4/21/2009

The word extremist has been thrown around frequently in the last week. One way to use the word extremist is as an adjective. This refers to opinions or actions that are “far beyond the norm.”1 According to Rasmussen Reports, 51% of Americans view the Tea Parties favorably.2 Even with negative media coverage, half of the Americans surveyed viewed the Tea Parties favorably. If people knew the Tea Parties were about securing the future of our nation, fighting growing debt that will be left for children, and keeping the government from controlling our lives, more people would have viewed these Tea Parties favorably. Only 13% of the political class viewed the Tea Parties even somewhat favorably.2  Who is “far beyond the norm?” At the Tea Party here in Clarksburg, WV, I met a woman who remembers her mother looking at ration books during the Great Depression, by the light of an oil lamp. I met grandparents worried about the dept our country is leaving for their grandchildren. These are regular people, who have lived through hard times. They believe in this country and want their children and grandchildren to inherit a strong nation.  Who are the extremist, the responsible people who are simply asking their government officials to be responsible, too? Could it be the young family, who struggles to get ahead, but every time they do get ahead, they find themselves in a higher tax bracket and just continue the struggle for just enough? Whose opinions are “far beyond the norm?” It is time the politicians listen to the people. It is the people who make this nation great. We have a message for the “extremist” in the political class, “Stop spending and start listening!”

Freedom Works; Bailouts Hurt

4/13/2009

I think of Easter as a celebration of freedom. This reminds of the reason our forefathers founded this country. They had experienced the government exerting control over the people and they did not like it. Our country was founded on freedom, but we have become accustom to giving freedom up for bailouts, whether it is personal bailouts providing for people who do not work or business bailouts for companies that have failed. Whenever the government starts handing out money, someone looses freedom. As a taxpayer, I lose the freedom to live the American dream of prosperity. The companies we are bailing out lose freedom, as well. Just ask the former CEO of GM. What did GM get from the bailout and what did the taxpayers get for the money spent on GM’s bailout? GM is preparing to file for bankruptcy by June 1. Where is our money going and what is happening in the land of the free and the home of the brave? I will tell what is going to happen. On Wednesday, we, the people of the United States of America, are going to let their voices be heard. We will send a message to Washington. We will take our country back!

Fear or Freedom

4/7/2009

President Franklin Roosevelt said, "There is nothing to fear except fear itself." However, the new deal like policies being passed today may be a reaction of fear. When the stimulus package was passed we heard that something needs to be done now. Could patience waiting for the market correct itself actually make the recovery quicker. Let's look at history to find out. In 1920 and 1921, the economy took a major hit, but President Warren Harding was not motivated by fear. He let the market do what it was meant to do. Business and banks fell. Was the result a failed economy? No, the result was the roaring twenties. Our economy actually boomed! Under the New Deal, from 1933-1940, the unemployment rate average 17% and taxes tripled.* This kind of tax increase makes it expensive to hire employees. We must not react in fear. Our founding fathers established a nation where free markets and other freedoms prevail. Our country can remain a prosperous nation, but we have to return to the principals of our founding father. Let's make sure the screams of fear do not drown out the ring of freedom.

Those Who Work Eat

4/3/2009

Those who work get to eat. A society that adopts this philosophy prospers. In order to prosper, we have to be a productive society. How are we going to be a productive society when we take money away from our top producers and give it to those who are not producing at all? I do support those who help people in trouble, but this an area of personal responsibility, not government control. As we have seen with the auto companies, when we accept money from the government we give up control. The United States is suppose to be a free society not a controlled society. We want to take responsibility for ourselves and decided to help our neighbors when they need help, as they help us. We do not want to support slothfulness and feed a draining society. We want a society that rewards hard word and does not chase foolish fantasies of spending money we do not have.
