Fair Tax: Jay Wolf’s Speech from the 2010 Tax Day Tea Party

At the 2010 Tax Day Tea Party, former State Senator Jay Wolfe encouraged us to take sides. If we do not take sides we make way for the oppressors. The communists and socialist want to destroy capitalism. The second plank in the Communist Manifesto is a progressive income tax. We must attack the income tax, and according to Wolfe, “The best way to attack it (the income tax system) is through the Fair Tax.”

The Fair Tax would replace the income tax system with a retail sales tax. That means no more IRS. Wolfe said that this would replace 5 or 6 taxes. He mentioned specifically payroll taxes, income taxes, corporate income taxes, capital gains tax, and inheritance tax.

Workers would take home 100% of their pay.  That should stimulate the economy.

It would also bring back jobs from oversees by reducing production costs. It is cheaper to produce overseas because the wages are lower. We cannot lower wages and no one wants to do that. We can reduce production cost by eliminating embedded taxes. Wolfe used bread as an example. The production starts with the farmer who grows the wheat. The farmer would have employees so he would have payroll taxes, Medicare taxes, and social security taxes. He would also have corporate income tax. He has to raise the cost of the wheat to pay the taxes. Then the farmer ships the wheat to the mill. The trucker has employees. He has to pay payroll taxes, Medicare taxes, and social security taxes. He also pays cooperate income taxes. The trucker has to raise the cost of shipping to pay the taxes. Then the mill has employees, and it goes on through every step of production. If we remove the layers of taxes, it reduces the cost of the bread, and companies would come back to our country because of the reduced production cost.

According to Wolf, the income tax is “straggling us, enslaving us.” Is it too radical to abolish the income tax?  Learn more about the Fair Tax and find out where candidates stand on this issue.

For the next few days, I will be posting summaries of the speeches for our Tax Day Tea Party.

The first speech is by Heath Frazier. If you don’t who Heath is, that is because he is an ordinary American, trying to provide for his family. I met Heath as I was starting to plan our first Tea Party. He also wanted to plan a Tea Party in Clarksburg, WV, so we joined forces. He has spoken at each of Tea Parties and will be speaking at the Independence Day Tea Party on July 5, 2010.

Heath offers encouragement listing some of the Tea Party victories. He points out, “It has taken the progressives in this country to organize in local communities for decades. Its only taken the Tea Party patriots about 12 months.”

Heath goes on to say that despite these victories we to continue to fight against expansions of government and the reckless spending of tax payer money. How do we do this? By electing people who abide by the Constitution instead of people who make their decisions according to back room deals and buyout. Heath says, “We need heroes not cowards. We need patriots not socialists.” We need to find candidates who stand for what we believe is good for our nation. They should be people who will stand for things such as, state’s rights, small businesses, and decreased government involvement in our lives. When find these candidates we need to do everything we can to get them elected.

Why is Heath involved in the Tea Party? So he can tell his 2 year old son that he did something to protect his son’s liberty. Why are you involved in the Tea Party? What are you doing to secure liberty for future generations?

Where Laws Come From

6/12/2010

"It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read or so incoherent that they cannot be understood..."
 James Madison

Has James Madison been looking over Harry Reid's and Nancy Pelosi's shoulders?  Lately, it seems as though congress can't pass any bill that isn't at least 1,000 pages of incoherent gibberish.

There's a difference between justice and the law. The average person can recognize what's right and fair. While our system of laws is supposed to reflect this, it doesn't always.  The laws of our country have suffered through a series of evolutions. In the beginning the 10 commandments were all the law anyone needed.

The law carried west with the settlers was condensed into just two commandments:  Don't cheat, don't cause harm.  This simplified system worked quite well. Cheat at cards and
you'll be shot. Steal a horse and you'll be hanged. Dally with the farmer's daughter and you'd be married.

Sheriff: "Your Honor, this man was caught stealing one of Hoot Smith's horses."
Judge:  "What do you have to say for yourself young man?"
     Accused: "I want a lawyer."
     Judge: "String him up."

Simple. Yet its very simplicity proved its undoing. For in the application of the law, there was little need of lawyers.  As the western territories became states, they set up
legislatures. At the time this sounded like a good thing. The bad aspect of this was that the governmental body tasked with creating laws was pretty much made up of only lawyers (since they had little else to do in the old west).  Contrary to what you might think, lawyers aren't stupid. They knew that in order to make sure their kind would not only survive but prosper, they would have to create a whole bunch of laws. Laws written in Latin so no one could possibly make heads or tails of any of it. Laws so contradictory you could break several laws just by standing around minding your own business.

Where's James Madison when you really need him?
