One certificate that we know was mailed in on Saturday is that of State Senator Mike Oliverio. He announced his candidacy this morning. He will be challenging Congressman Alan Mollohan in the Democratic Party primary. RJ Smith, who has run against Mollohan as a write in candidate in the past, had said he would run, but he dropped out of the race.
There are six Republicans in the race, David McKinley, Sarah Minear, Tom Stark, Mac Warner, Cindy Hall, and Patricia VanGilder Levenson. All six of these candidates have confirmed they will attend the Candidate Forum on February 6th at Light of Life World Outreach Center in Fairmont, WV. Daniel Swisher was in the race as well. However, he has announced he will not be running.
Congressman Mollohan has said he will not be attending the candidate forum. We have contacted Mike Oliverio, but he has not said whether he will be participating or not.
With such a crowded race everyone needs to get involved not only in general election, but also the primary. We need to make sure the best candidates come out of the primary, so please, inform yourself on all the candidates. The candidate forum will be an excellent opportunity to meet the congressional candidates and begin learning where they stand on the issues.
